DETAILED ANALYSIS & DISSECTION 

(more like just an excuse for me to gush & fangirl over them) 😆😘💜

ANKARA PRINTS, African Wax Prints: 

First of all other than their hanboks which is a representation of Korean culture & tradition, their suits are actually ANKARA PRINTS (also known as African wax Prints & they are really beautiful). ▪︎ Confirmed by (twt): BTS_ARMY_INT

They mentioned that the track is inspired by African beats & they integrated African beats with Korean classical beats (& traditional Asian instruments) so beautifully & intricately. Not just their suits & the beat, but the animals in the background as well. 

I guess this is their way of saying that music is universal & just cause they are inspired to use different beats from what they expected to be using, no matter what, there will be people making comments about their roots so instead of caring, they will show their appreciation for each & every culture & every genre they are inspired from. 

In Korea, if you’re in an idol group, whether you’re a singer or rapper, there are prejudice against them, their songs & their abilities. Especially for rappers & in BTS’s case since Namjoon & Yoongi were underground rappers & hip hop artist, people don’t consider their music to be “authentic hip hop” or “hip-hop genre”. Of course, they tackled this particular prejudice in various song, like RM’s DO YOU (go stream his mixtape, it’s a masterpiece) where the lyrics are 

• I’m not pop, I’m not rock, I’m not funk, I’m not R&B or hip hop
  
• All the kids who don’t know what they are yet dig, earlobes
  
• “skirt and skinny jeans? that’s not hip hop!”
  
• So is A$AP not hip hop?

Hobie’s reference to his Mixtape with that Airplane. Of course, his mixtape was well perceived & it’s a masterpiece but among all the praise & appreciation there were those authenticity comments about being rappers & such. Basically, he’s free cause he realized that he stayed true to himself & he was just improving & getting better at what he’s doing I was always just me. 

So at this point, they are coming to terms with whatever people call them cause no matter how hard they try, there will be people trying to degrade by labeling them. And even if the label isn’t derogatory, haters will find ways to attach negativity to it.  

Ship & Globe:  

So a ship, compared to an airplane, reaches it’s destination a little later so this might be the reference of the start of their career. A ship represents journey, crossing, adventure & exploration. Crossing the sea is a symbolic making of the journey across life (in this case their careers as well). The globe represents how despite their beginnings were they made the journey & are going around the world, & we can use the airplane to connect it to Airplane pt.2 as well

This also this reminds me of his mullet, where fans stated their opinions regarding it, which is totally fine. But to say something to the point where he feels so conscious about it is just sad.

The way the sentence is structured & said (sang) is actually kinda sarcastic (if you watch a lot of dramas or variety shows they say this often to people who are overconfident or basically trash talking). In this case, to haters or the general public who nitpick everything, they say & do. Or just basically talk trash about them & try to spread rumors & stuff. 

1. So the dinosaur/monster thingy in the first pic might be how BTS views haters as so they are kinda pointing to the monster as they sing the next few lines which are

2. Jimin’s drawing might also be the reference to how he views haters or people who criticize him & so on. 

3. For Yoongi’s drawing, it’s Shooky but it’s holding onto 2 human stick figures while smiling & the measurements might be a reference to Ddaeng (I knew watching Tazza 1 & 2 & Running Man is gonna come in handy one day 😂) 

• 18,13,38 ddaeng  

So these are Hwatu card combinations also called Go-Stop. So basically the higher the number, the higher the points & chances of winning. So 1,3 & 8 are special cards & form the highest combinations, while 18 & 13 are equivalent, 38 is the ultimate combination. It’s undefeatable. So when a player has those combinations, they would say DDAENG or good ddaeng.  

‣ Basically its an indication that no matter what people or haters say, they have the winning combinations, they might not have the ultimate combination but they do have the 2 special combinations. And even without 38 (not coming from one of the big 3 companies I guess?), they are doing more than fine in their lives & music careers. 

4. Jin’s drawing of a whale = Kore 

The whale teaches one to listen to their inner voice & understand the impact of their emotions which affects their daily lives & also to follow one’s own truth. ‣ So this might indicate Jin (as well as BTS) coming into terms with whatever they had to go through (all the negatively, criticisms etc) to reach where they are at the moment. 

And what they still have to go through & endure in order to achieve their goals as a group & individually so they can reach a destination they are all meant to reach & hopefully be at peace with where they reach. 

Whales are also amazing communicators & are able to connect & communicate with other whales over thousands of miles away. The whale supports us in communicating clearly from our hearts and connect deeper with our loved ones. 

‣ So this explanation might be referencing to Jin’s relations with the BTS members & their relationships with each other basically. It does not matter what haters say or what comes their way, they have each other so they will be able to come out stronger than ever. 

얼쑤! 좋다! = Ursoo! Johda. Deonggideok kungdeoreoreo (Drum beat sound) 

So ursoo is an exclamation people make to indicate their excitement or joy. Johda as well, it translates to Good or it’s good (Sian uses this phrase a lot 😂) also to indicate approval or joy. 

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Yoongi & Hoseok are wearing sweaters with vivid colors. Hoseok’s sweater is yellow, it might be the reflection of his personality & how we see him. We do call him our sunshine so that might be the case.  However, the reference to Face Off where the character gets a totally new face, this might be the indication that he can be a superstar at times, a superhero at times & he has other faces that even we don’t see or know about.

So his sweater color & character, Snow White is probably more related to comments about how fair or pale his skin is. Usually, for men, slightly tan or just tan skin is preferred so this might be a reference to his awareness of the comments & how he does not get bothered by now. Also cause he prefers to stay in his hotel room to rest & compose music (e.g In BV1, Summer Package 2018) people assume he’s lazy & indifferent. Which is not the case & 24 hours is not enough to do all the things he has to do, let alone give heed to haters. 

He’s aware of the comments & jokes we make about him not posting on SNS & that fans assume he does not care or love us. But he’s reassuring everyone that he loves himself just as he loves his fans. 

This part has 2 meanings, first are the lyrics where they say that there are many sides of them that they discover every day and instead of worrying about those sides, they accept themselves no matter what side it is. As for the people trying to reach out to Tae, it might be the representation of fans who try to invade their personal space, hence Runnin’ man

Remember Tae said he believes that rabbits exist on the moon? It actually comes from a Korean mythology → Moon Rabbit 

Representing prosperity & longevity 

Of course, people trying to pull Jin down cause he’s so confident about himself. 

The stereotype that all Kpop idols/artists look the same. (Like seriously? I can recognize which member is it by simply looking at their hands or their neck) 

See how despite the shark being so vicious & enormous, it does not faze them & they just keep dancing & singing You can’t stop me lovin’ myself.

Another indication that no matter what haters or anyone says or comes at them, they know themselves & each other & ARMYS. They know as long as they stay true to themselves & keep loving themselves, nothing & no one can affect them personally & professionally. 

The overall mv, is so vibrant & extravagant & the CGI is so obvious, unlike other MVs where CGI is used to make it seem like it’s naturally present or happening. This is another jab to the stereotype that Kpop Mvs have to maintain a certain standard visually.
